The Lew and Edie Wasserman library is open to cinema lovers - researchers, students, lecturers, reporters, and all admirers of the Seventh art.
The library holds a large and comprehensive collection of books in both English and Hebrew dedicated to cinema - film history, cinematic genres, biographies, theory, technical guides, film festival catalogues and much more. Additionally, the library carries a large and updated collection of professional and leading journals from around the world.
The library does not only operate as a handler of books; it acts as a unique center that gathers all the printed materials about Israeli cinema from its early days till today: articles, hundreds of still photographs, scripts, prominent film personalities' private collections and, also, a one-of-a-kind collection of the largest assortment of Israeli film posters that includes most of the Israeli films screened in Israel and around the world.
An additional collection is "The Ofek Collection", a true treasure, consisting of 300 advertising posters shown in Tel Aviv's and Jerusalem's cinemas "Eden", "Gan Rene", "Beit ha'am", "Ophir" and "Opera Mugrabi", "Edison", and "Zion" between 1928 to1934 (these collections are open to the public by special request).
The Jerusalem Cinematheque has dedicated itself to the preservation and forwarding of the Israeli cinematic tradition. For this purpose we initiate research and the writing of books, through which we hope to share our love for Israeli and Jewish cinema.
The library staff is happy to guide and assist any visitor in the locating of needed material.
